My name is Jim Argent and I am the Principal at Lake Myra Elementary School. Prior to being named Lake Myra’s Principal, I was the Principal at Swift Creek Elementary School for four years and the Assistant Principal at Timber Drive Elementary School for a year and a half. I was also the curriculum integration coordinator at Centennial Campus Middle School and a high school physical education teacher and basketball coach. I recently finished my Doctoral Program through East Carolina University in Educational Leadership.
Personally, I am a very family oriented person and consider my family my top priority. My wife, Kristen (she is the Academically Gifted teacher at North Forest Pines Elementary School and the most talented educator I have ever been around), and I have two incredible daughters: Delaney, who turns 11 on Valentine’s Day, and Kieran, who turns 8 on March first. I love to play with my daughters and be a part of their extracurricular activities. Delaney is an avid reader, loves Irish Dance, and has recently started playing the violin. She dances at Inis Cairde in Raleigh. For Kieran, I coach her soccer team, the Falcons, for the CASL soccer league. Kieran is despertely trying to convince me to let her play the drums. Kieran would also like me to mention that she likes playing on the computer. They are both very creative and LOVE our new tradition of Family Movie Night!
In my spare time, I love reading, cooking gourmet food (cheese fondue is our family favorite), following the East Carolina Pirates (As Jimmy Buffet sings, “Yes, I am a Pirate!), Carolina Hurricanes, and following politics. I am a former history major and love history. We are always looking to travel and can't wait to get to any beach or amusement park - no coaster is too scary for my family! My daughters and wife are really into astronomy and anything else science – so I love that, too! I love laughing and am incredibly passionate about education. Finally, I play a mean game of Wii tennis and Wii bowling!
