Each year, Lake Myra Elementary School adopts a theme for the year. This year, our theme is Do you believe in me? We got this theme from a marvelous speech given by a young man named Dalton Sherman from Texas. His speech is captured below in this YouTube video and is truly inspiring. Do YOU Believe in Me?
2011-2012 Theme -Defying Gravity
We chose Defying Gravity - a song from the Broadway play Wicked as our theme. We wanted to teach our students to reach for their goals and be visionary. A line from the song states, "You're never gonna keep me down." It was music to my ears when I learned that one of our fifth grade students told her mother that she was going to make it big, she was going to Defy Gravity and nothing was going to keep her down. I think the 2010-2011 theme was a huge success. If you have never heard the song, it will be one of the best five minutes of your life to listen to it on-line. Plus, there is probably not a better voice in the world than Idina Menzel - one of the lead actresses from the original production.
